Review of the John Crane Tidlo Double Sided Wooden Easel and Chalkboard

This well made child's easel is primarily constructed from wood. It is very well made and is especially versatile as it is double sided. One side is an easel, faced with a white wipe clean surface. This can be drawn on directly with wipe-off markers or the supplied roll of white drawing paper can be pulled down and torn off when finished with. You can, of course, just stick your own sheets of paper to this surface with a bit of masking tape, which keeps the original white surface clean. Another innovative feature is that the white side is metallic underneath. This means that magnetic wooden letters or shapes can be used on it, either to draw around or just for fun. These are not supplied with the easel. A big advantage of the easel is that it folds flat for easy storage when not in use.

The reverse of the easel is a traditional black chalk board. This is perhaps more useful for the younger child as, with the addition of a box of coloured chalks, many hours of fun can be had. A damp sponge is perhaps a usefull addition to the box of coloured chalks. Neither are supplied with the easel but can be easily purchased at a Pound shop locally.

Initially adult supervision and encouragement will be required. All children love to draw and with some encouragement your child can soon be drawing simple shapes and rubbing them off again. This can soon progress to numbers and letters, especially if mum or dad give them something to copy. Try drawing simple tree shapes as a starting point.

Our verdict: A well-made child's easel that has good play value and should last a long time.
